Conductor Stephen Bell, Leader David Leech
A concert celebrating the wide diversity of classical music from the Americas. We open with a piece from “the dean of American music” Aaron Copland- “The Tender Land Suite“. . We then follow with Arturo Marquez’s celebration of his native Mexico with his famous “Danzon no.2” Lastly, we present the beautiful, romantically inspired Symphony no. 1 by Florence Beatrice Price. The piece was Price’s first full-scale orchestral composition and was the first symphony by a Black woman to be performed by a major American orchestra (the Chicago Symphony Orchestra in 1933).
