Answer the Call of the Wild as Market Harborough Orchestra takes you on a musical journey through enchanted forests, sweeping landscapes and the untamed beauty of the natural world. We begin with the elegance and charm of Delibes’ Suite from Sylvia, drawn from his delightful ballet set in a mythical world of woodland nymphs, shepherds and ancient gods. Hamilton Harty’s With the Wild Geese then transports us to the rugged landscapes of Ireland, its stirring melodies and rich orchestral colours evoking both the beauty of the Irish countryside and the spirit of those who left their homeland for distant shores.

The concert culminates in Sibelius’ magnificent Symphony No. 5, one of the great masterpieces of the orchestral repertoire. Inspired by the Finnish landscape and the natural world, its music moves from shimmering stillness to moments of extraordinary power and exhilaration. Its unforgettable finale, famously inspired by the sight of sixteen swans taking flight, builds towards one of the most thrilling and majestic conclusions in all symphonic music.
